Leukaemia (blood cancer) is cancer of the cells found in the blood stream, usually those that develop in the bone marrow. Cells have a mutation in their DNA which means they proliferate uncontrollably, and they do not mature, meaning they cannot function properly. Leukaemia can be in myeloid cells or lymphocytic cells. Myeloid cells become red cells, white cells and platelets, and lymphoid stem cells develop into T-lymphocytes and B-lymphocytes.
