First text and Confirmatory Typing!

So first things first; when you start donating blood, they ask you 'can we take an extra sample and add your to the bone marrow register', to which I obviously at some point said yes!  This has no effect on you for weeks, months, usually years, maybe never will, until......

you get a text.
The text! Y neges!

It's a simple text! Mine came early on a Friday morning; I rang them back that morning, and I was told that I was one of roughly 3 or 4 people that will have had a text.

They ask you various questions such as your current health status, family history of blood cancer or other disorders, are you pregnant, how old are you, are you still willing to give your bone marrow. Following that, they arrange an appointment for you, either at your GP or as it was for me, haematology outpatients at my nearest hospital. This process was very easy! They take 5 bottles of blood and send them off for confirmatory typing, which will decide, of the people who got texts, who was the best match! It was then a long wait!

Image result for blood bottlesYn gyntaf, efallai na fydd erioed gofyn i chi roi mêr esgyrn ond efallai, fel fi, gewch chi neges o fewn y blynyddoedd cyntaf! Neges syml, a'r cyfan nes i orfod gwneud oedd ffonio 'Gwasanaeth Gwaed Cymru'. Ar ôl cwestiynau am eich iechyd, iechyd teulu, beichiogrwydd, oedran ac os ydych dal yn hapus i helpu, dim byd rhy annodd, fe nathon ni drefnu apwyntiad gwaed i fi, hawdd iawn!

So far, 7 bottles of blood had been taken throughout the process!
Hyd yn hyn, roedd 7 botel gwaed wedi'u cymryd!

Many people have told me I'm young to be a match for a patient as I've only given blood 4 times! But I've learnt that young people  (over 18) make for better donors - so please join the register if you can!

Fel rhywun ugain mlwydd oed sydd ond wedi rhoi gwaed 4 gwaith, mae llawer wedi dweud fy mod yn ifanc iawn i roi mêr esgyrn, ond rwyf wedi dysgu bod pobl ifanc (dros 18) yn 'matches' gwell, felly mae angen mwy i ymuno â'r gofrestr!
